Pennsylvania will have a primary election on May 20, 2014 and a general election on November 4, 2014. Voters will elect candidates to serve in the following state and federal offices:

The 2014 filing deadline for candidates seeking to participate in the primary is March 11, 2014.[1] Candidates seeking to participate in the November general election must file by August 1, 2014.[1]

As of October 2013, there are three recognized political parties in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania also recognizes "political bodies," which are not considered political parties (and are thus ineligible to participate in primaries) but may nonetheless field candidates via nomination papers. Political body affiliations appear on the general election ballot.[2]

The state executive term limits in Pennsylvania are as follows:

  • Governor may serve a total of two terms.
  • Lieutenant Governor may serve a total of two terms.
  • Attorney General may serve a total of two terms.
  • Treasurer must wait four years before being eligible for the office of auditor general.
  • Auditor must wait four years and/or one full term before being eligible again after two consecutive terms.
