Illinois's Congressional Elections in 2012
U.S. Senate Election? U.S. House seats Possible competitive races?
No 18 6

SPRINGFIELD: Illinois: Illinois has 18 U.S. House seats on the ballot in 2012. Thirteen of the 18 incumbents are running for re-election in their same districts while one district was eliminated after the 2010 census. Each of the 18 districts have at least two candidates on the ballot.

According to the New York Times, Illinois' 12th Congressional District is considered a toss-up seat in the upcoming election. It is currently a Republican held seat. William Enyart (D) faces Jason Plummer (R) in the election. Other competitive races in the state include the 8th, 10th, 11th, 13th and 17th districts. The New York Times places the 8th, 10th, 11th and 17th District seats as leaning towards the Democratic side with the 13th leaning towards the Republican side.[1]

Real Clear Politics list of the 50 most likely districts to change party include six Illinois districts -- the 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 17th Districts.[2]

Currently, the Democratic Party holds eight Congressional seats and the Republican Party holds 11. Democrats control the Illinois State Legislature and redrew the districts to heavily favor Democratic candidates. The Center for Voting and Democracy (Fairvote) projects that Democrats will win seven districts while Republicans will win two seats. An additional nine districts were considered toss-ups, with several leaning in Democratic favor.[3]

In Illinois, the polls are open at 6 AM and close at 7 PM local time.[4]
