Elections for 17 seats in the Wisconsin State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on August 12, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 2, 2014. Martha Laning ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Devin Lemahieu ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Lamahieu defeated Laning in the general election. Barry Nelson (R) was removed from the candidate list before the primary.[2][1][3]

Nelson ran in the 2012 election for Wisconsin State Assembly District 25. He was defeated by Paul Tittl in the Republican primary on August 14, 2012. Jim Brey defeated Luke Bushman, Ron Gruett, and Bernie Starzewski in the Democratic primary. Independent incumbent Robert Ziegelbauer did not run for re-election. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[4]
