Bill Peduto is the 2013 Democratic candidate for mayor of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has served on the Pittsburgh City Council as the District 8 councilman since January 2002.

Peduto will face Republican Joshua Wander in the November 5, 2013 general election.

Primary election

On May 21, 2013, Peduto won the Democratic mayoral primary, defeating former Auditor General Jack Wagner, State Representative Jake Wheatley and A. J. Richardson.[1]

Positions

A hallmark of Peduto's mayoral candidacy has been his release of 100 policy papers in as many days, focusing in particular on issues of governmental transparency, neighborhood and community development and pension reform.[2]

Background

Peduto has been involved in Pittsburgh municipal politics since the 1990s, when he served as an aide to former councilman Dan Cohen. Peduto began his stint on the Pittsburgh City Council in January 2002. He currently serves as the councilman for District 8.[3] He is the chairperson of the council's Committee on Human Resources.[4]

Peduto's 2013 campaign marks his third for mayor, having launched unsuccessful bids in 2005 and 2007.[3]
