A recall election may take place against Nevada Senate Minority Leader Bill Raggio.
A notice of intent to recall has not yet been filed but according to recall supporters a meeting took place November 19, 2009 to discuss recall efforts. The effort was initiated after tax increases were approved by the 2009 Nevada Legislature
In an email The Committee to Recall Raggio said,"It is time to send a message to elected officials that they can no longer mislead voters before an election and ignore them after they get into office. That legislators answer to their constituents, as Sen. Raggio will soon learn."
Raggio was first elected to the Nevada State Senate in 1972 and was re-elected in 2008.
Response to recall
In response to the recall efforts, Sen. Raggio said he isn't too concerned and doesn't lose any sleep. However, in response to upset residents and Republicans, Raggio said,"Nobody thought we'd have to raise taxes." Raggio added that he didn't not make any promises not to raise taxes and said, "I know what I did was right."
