A Birch Run Township Fire Levy Implementation measure will be on the May 3, 2011 ballot in the township of Birch Run which is in Saginaw County.

This measure seeks to implement a fire levy which would be set at a rate of $1 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a period of fifteen years in order to help pay for fire protection and emergency medical services offered in the township.[1]

Text of measure

The question on the ballot:

Shall Birch Run Township establish a special assessment district, consisting of all lands within the Township, for the purpose of providing funds for fire protection and emergency medical response, including the funding of operations and purchase and maintenance of equipment, in an amount not to exceed 1 mill ($1.00 on each $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of 15 years, 2011 to 2025 inclusive? Pursuant to Act 33 of the Michigan Public Acts of 1951, the estimated expense for the fire department, and the amount to be assessed, shall be determined annually by the Township Board, but it shall not exceed one (1) mill. (It is estimated that if approved, one mill would raise approximately $200,000.00 in the first year of the special assessment.)[2]
