Harriman is running in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Illinois' 12th District. Harriman is seeking the nomination on the Democratic ticket. [4] The signature filing deadline was December 27, 2011, with the primary taking place on March 20, 2012.

Harriman defeated candidates Chris Miller and Kenneth Wiezer in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012.[1] Jason Plummer defeated candidates Rodger Cook and Theresa Kormos in the Republican primary.[1] Harriman will face Plummer in the general election on November 6, 2012.
