Jacobsen began his career as an Oakland County Commissioner.
Jacobsen won election to the District 46 Seat in 2010. He defeated Daniel Myslakowski and Gary Warner in the August 3 Republican primary. He defeated David Lillis (D) in the general election on November 2, 2010.
