Brian Jones is a Democratic member of the Maine House of Representatives, representing District 45 since 2012. [1][2] It is his first time running for the Maine Legislature.[3]


Jones is currently a Selectman in Freedom. He spent 22 years as a high school teacher of English, mathematics and statistics, economics, history and government, and boat building. The last three years in public education he served as a high school principal.[3]

Jones has been a volunteer firefighter for almost 30 years and has served on Freedom's budget committee, planning board, and as the Town's school committee representative.[3]


Jones earned his B.A. in English from the University of Southern Maine in 1980 and his M.Ed. from the University of Maine in 2006.[3]


Campaign themes


Jones outlined four main themes of his campaign:[3]

  • "Create meaningful job opportunities for all Maine workers"
  • "Protect our seniors and the most vulnerable in our community"
  • "Provide a quality education for the next generation"
  • "Ensure an effective, efficient, accountable, and principled state government."

Jones won election in the 2012 election for Maine House of Representatives District 45. Jones ran unopposed in the June 12 Democratic primary and defeated incumbent R. Ryan Harmon (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5]
