A Burns Township Fire Levy Renewal measure is on the August 7, 2012 ballot in the township of Burns, which is in Shiawassee County.

This measure seeks to renew the current fire levy which is set at a rate of $1 per $1,000 of assessed value for a further three years in order to continue to pay for fire department operational costs in the township.[1]

Text of measure

The question on the ballot:

Shall the Township of Burns, Shiawassee County, Michigan levy 1 mill ($1.00 on each $1,000.00 of taxable valuation of such property) on all property in the Township for a period of 3 years, 2012 through 2014 inclusive, to provide funds to operate a fire department (this being a renewal) of 1 mill for the same purpose which expires with the 2012 tax levy? The Township estimates it will collect $82,000 in the first calendar year if this proposal is approved.[2]
