Bordering the Pacific Ocean, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico, California is located on the west coast of the United States. The state's capital is Sacramento and is governed as a republic, with three branches of government – the executive branch consisting of the Governor and the other independently elected constitutional officers; the legislative branch consisting of the California State Assembly and California State Senate; and the judicial branch consisting of the Supreme Court of California and lower courts of California.
