The California gubernatorial election will take place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Jerry Brown (D) is eligible for re-election and has filed a "Statement of Intention" to run for re-election as Governor of California in 2014.[1] The winner of the election will serve a 4-year term in office.

California is one of three states to use a blanket primary, or top-two system, which allows all candidates to run and all voters to vote but only moves the top two vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, to the general election.[2][3][4]
