Frelier graduated from Penfield High School in 1978. He earned a bachelor's degree from Calvin College and a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Frelier also has a master's degree from the University of Rochester, William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration.[1]

Frelier's professional experience also includes working as a senior mechanical design engineer for ITT industries and a mechanical design engineer and manufacturing engineer for Eastman Kodak Company where he earned two patents, US5581332 A and US4949126 A. Additionally, he worked at Chandra X-Ray Telescope Observatory working with a team that focused on the Aft HRMA structure and the Sunshade Door. Elections for the office of New York State Assembly will take place in 2014. A primary election took place September 9, 2014. The general election will be held on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 10, 2014. Incumbent Mark Johns defeated Calvin A. Frelier in the Republican primary. Johns is also running on the Working Families Party, Conservative Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. Johns is unchallenged in the general election.[3]
