Calvin A. Frelier was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 135 of the New York State Assembly.


Frelier graduated from Penfield High School in 1978. He earned a bachelor's degree from Calvin College and a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Frelier also has a master's degree from the University of Rochester, William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration.[1]

He is the inventor of mechanized self clearing gutter systems (US Patents 7428799, 7610721 and 8584403). Frelier's professional experience also includes working as a senior mechanical design engineer for ITT industries and Eastman Kodak Company, (US Patents 5581332 and 4949126). Additionally, he worked at Chandra X-Ray Telescope Observatory working with a team that focused on the Aft HRMA structure and the Sunshade Door. He designed a small drill bushing used for assembly but remaining on the door of the telescope. His primary focus for the Chandra Observatory project was designing ground support equipment to facilitate alignment and assembly of portions of the High Resolution Mirror Assembly.[2]

Elections for the office of New York State Assembly took place in 2014. A primary election took place on September 9, 2014. The general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 10, 2014. Incumbent Mark Johns defeated Calvin A. Frelier in the Republican primary. Johns also ran on the Working Families Party, Conservative Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. Johns was unchallenged in the general election.[3][4][5]
