Elections for the city council of New Orleans, Louisiana consisted of a primary election on February 1, 2014, and a general election on March 15, 2014. Because no candidate received 50 percent of the vote on February 1, 2014, incumbent Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson (D) and Nadine Ramsey (D), as the top two vote getters, advanced to the runoff election on March 15, 2014. Ramsey defeated Brechetel Clarkson in the runoff. Lourdes Moran (D), Carlos Williams (D) and Eloise Williams (I) did not advance to the runoff.[2][3][4]

Williams ran in the 2011 election for Louisiana House of Representatives District 102. He was defeated by incumbent Jeffery Arnold (D) in the primary election on October 22, 2011. Because Louisiana uses a blanket primary system, a candidate can be declared the overall winner of the seat by garnering 50 percent +1 of the vote in the primary. However, if no candidate reaches this threshold, then a general election will take place on November 19, 2011.
