Catherine Terry Taylor (born March 25, 1961 in Hartford, Connecticut) is a former speech writer for the late Senator John H. Chafee and former Senator Lincoln D. Chafee. In late-June 2010, she announced her candidacy for the statewide office of secretary of state, to which incumbent Ralph Mollis was seeking re-election. [1] She narrowly lost in the general election on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010 receiving slightly over forty-nine percent of the vote.

Political career

After receiving her law degree, Taylor joined the staff of Bob Smith, a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, where she remained for two years. She then served as both a legislative assistant for defense and foreign policy as well as a speechwriter for John Chafee, a Republican member of the United States Senate representing Rhode Island. Following Chafee's sudden death in 1999, his son, Lincoln, retained Taylor as senior editor until his unsuccessful bid for re-election in 2006.

Professional experience

Back in the private sector for the first time in twenty years, Taylor and Ian Lang, another former member of Chafee's senatorial staff, founded Lang-Taylor Ltd., a communications and public affairs consulting firm based in Providence, Rhode Island; the company later changed its name to Taylorwordworks.
