Brown currently serves on the following committees:

Race for Speaker of the House

Following House Speaker William McCoy's (D) decision not to run for re-election in 2011, lawmakers are posturing to run for his powerful legislative position. According to reports, Brown is considered a possible candidate for the speakership. A possible frontrunner is Jeffrey Smith (R) who narrowly lost the 2008 speaker election by a single vote. Lawmakers will vote on a new speaker at start of the new 2012 session. A narrow margin of power for either party following the election could force lawmakers to form a coalition in order to elect a new speaker.[2]
