School budget

The Board of Education's fiscal year 2010 operating budget is $295.2 million, which includes budget reductions, provides for mandatory cost increases for health insurance, utilities and service contracts, while maintaining successful educational programs.[11]

The budget includes Maintenance of Effort funding from the Charles County Commissioners and a reduction of nearly $6.3 million in state revenues. A fund balance transfer of $2.6 million is combined with nearly $8.8 million in reductions to help balance the fiscal year 2010 budget. Cuts include central office positions as well as a reduction of funding for textbooks, technology upgrades, after-school activity buses and other line items. There is no compensation increase for employees. CCPS was able to absorb some of the cuts using federal stimulus funds through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). [11]
