Lauzen graduated from Duke University with his Bachelor's Degree in 1974 in Management Science and earned his Master's in Business Administration from Harvard in 1978.
Before becoming a Senator, Lauzen was the owner of his own accounting firm.

Lauzen ran for re-election to the 25th District Seat in the Illinois State Senate against Democrat Leslie N. Juby. The election takes place on November 2, 2010. Lauzen was challenged by P. Sean Michels in the Republican primary election on February 2nd.
