Chris Stewart is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the state of Utah. Stewart represents Utah's 2nd congressional district and was first elected to the House in 2012.[1]


Stewart's parents raised him and his nine brothers and sisters on a dairy farm in Idaho. He took a hiatus from college at Utah State University to work as a Morman missionary in Texas before graduating in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in economics. After serving as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force for fourteen years, Stewart went on to become a small-business owner and author of several books. He and his wife, Evie, have six children.[2][3]

Campaign themes


According to Stewart's website, his campaign themes included:

  • Medicare: "...implementing free market reforms, the cost of Medicare can be contained while Americans are assured they will have access to quality medical coverage when they enter retirement age."
  • Tax code: "The current tax code is unjustifiably complex and unfair. It is designed to benefit those who have the money to pay lawyers and accountants and to disadvantage those who are trying to play by the rules."
  • Immigration: "Because of this failure, illegal immigration has become a national security threat."[5]

Stewart ran successfully in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Utah's 2nd District. Stewart defeated Jason Buck, Dave Clark, Cherilyn Eagar, Howard Wallack, Chuck Williams, John Willoughby, Milton Hanks, Edward Mayerhofer, Jeramey McElhaney, and Bob Fuehr in the Republican convention.[6] He then won in the general election on November 6, 2012.[7][8]
