Board of education

The school board is responsible adopting an annual budget for the school district based on the educational plan for the district and the recommendations of the administrators. In addition, the board supervises the execution of the budget, reviews school district accounts and provides for an annual audit of the accounts as required by law. The school board is also responsible for adopting academic standards for pupils and establishing expectations for the district. The school board monitors student academic achievement and exercises general oversight of the schools in the district.[12]

Teacher contracts

Negotiated contracts are posted on the district's website.[13] The agreement with the Churchill County Education Association provided for a 2% increase in the salary schedule for FY 2007 and that no salary increase would be implemented in FY 2009.[14]

School budget

The district's budget for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2010, is posted on the website.[15]

State funding accounted for 52% of the district's funds, with local sources accounting for 38% and federal funds making up the remaining 9%.[16] Local sources included nonproperty tax resources, including the local school support tax, which generated $6,876,276 and property taxes, which generated $5,030,654, for a total of $11,906,930.[17] State funds totaled $18,622,518.[18]

Licensed teachers in the district are represented by the Churchill County Education Association.[26] The Churchill County Administrator's Association represents all administrators in the district.[27] The classified employees in the district are part of the Nevada Classified School Employees Association.[28]

School choice

Churchill County's Distance Education Online Program serves students with a self-paced online computer centered curriculum that is approved by the state of Nevada. "A+" an anywhere learning system is the delivery software used to support core subjects and electives for students in high school, who must meet criteria for acceptance, including health concerns, pregnancy, support family/work, expulsion/suspension and accelerated learning.
