An Urban Growth Boundary Initiative will appear on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Buellton, California as Measure E.

Measure F, or the City Growth Policy Measure will be on the ballot at the same time.

608 signatures to qualify Measure E for the city's ballot were turned in to city election officials on May 2, 2008.[1] The signatures will be checked by Santa Barbara County clerks in a process that takes 30 days. About 240 of the signatures must be valid for the initiative to make the ballot.

"Buellton Is Our Town" is the group supporting the measure. Containing urban sprawl is their primary goal.

If the initiative succeeds,

  • Voter approval would be required for expansion outside the city limits or to develop sewer or water services outside the existing city limits.
  • The initiative would amend the city's current General Plan.
  • The initiative would be in effect until December 31, 2025.
