City of Santa Barbara Bridge at Veronica Meadows, Measure Y (June 2012)
If it had been approved, Measure Y would have allowed Mark Lee, a developer, to build a bridge that would pass over a small city park. The bridge would have allowed access to a 25-unit public housing project. The 25-unit project would have been located on the west side of Las Positas Road across from Elings Park. The housing project was approved by the Santa Barbara City Council.
In 2007, "Citizens Planning Association" filed a lawsuit to prevent the bridge from being built. A judge ultimately ruled that before Lee could proceed to build the bridge, he would need an affirmative vote of the public. That is what resulted in Measure Y going on the ballot.

Cost of election
The election on Measure Y cost about $78,000. Developer Lee agreed to pay this cost, regardless of whether Y won or lost.
The question on the ballot:
|MEASURE Y: "Shall the City Council allow the construction of a public road and bridge on undeveloped City parkland where a bridge is necessary for a housing development, commonly known as Veronica Meadows, and provides public access along Arroyo Burro Creek?"|
