Two Columbia Township Fire & Police Levy Measures were on the August 2, 2011 ballot in the township of Columbia, which is in Jackson County.

Both measures were approved

The first measure sought to renew the current fire levy which is set at a rate of $.46 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further five years in order to help pay for operational costs of the fire department in the township.[1]

The second measures sought to renew the current police levy which is set at a rate of $.92 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further five years in order to continue to pay for police protection services in the township.[2]

  • YES 712 (69.4%)Approveda

Shall the expiring previously voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution in Columbia Township, of .5 mill ($0.50 per $1,000 of taxable value), reduced to .4617 mills ($0.4617 per $1,000 of taxable value) by the required millage rollbacks, be renewed at .4617 mills ($0.4617 per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for 5 years, 2012 through 2016, inclusive, to solely provide fire protection within Columbia Township, including the operation of the Columbia Township Fire Department, raising an estimated $157,728 in the first year the millage is levied.
