A Columbiana Sales Tax Renewal Measure was on the November 3, 2009 ballot in Columbiana County.

The measure included a proposal to renew a 1-percent county-wide sales tax. According to Commissioner Jim Hoppel the tax is "44 percent of the general fund" and is expected to generate $8 million in the next 5 years.[1]

Although the measure failed, the current tax does not expire until December so county officials have some time to figure out a plan. This tax generated a significant amount for the county budget. But as with many tax issues, voters did not want to have additional money being taken out of their pockets.[2]
