Public records

Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 v. Stern is a transparency lawsuit brought before the Illinois Supreme Court in March of 2009. The case is over whether or not to disclose the contract of Superintendent Gary Catalani's contract. Stern sued in 2006 after a FOIA request was rejected by the school district. The Superintendent in 2006 was Gary Catalani, who was the highest paid Superintendent in the state at $306,000.[19] Mark O. Stern v. Wheaton-Warrenville Community Unity School District 200 case established that merely placing documents in an exempted source does not exempt those documents from FOIA requests and that previous voluntary disclosures to FOIA requests eliminate potential claims of exemption on similar FOIA requests.
