Mallet-Fontenot attended elementary through high school at HISD schools. She has both her Bachelor's and Master's of Science degrees in Education from Texas Southern University. She is currently a second grade teacher at James H. Law Elementary School.
Mallet Fontenot states that the her campaign platforms are pushing for "more teaching, less testing," ensuring "that Distict 9 schools receive their 2012 allocated bond funds," providing "quality, consistent programming that flows from elementary-high school" and improving "the teacher appraisal and development system."
What's at stake?
Trustees made the decision in May 2013 to change the magnet school policy now say that some campuses will lose a combined $2.3 million in extra funding next year. HISD is still struggling with the deep budget cuts in public education from 2011 and a property tax rate that is about to go up to fund pay raises and the district's Apollo program.
Five seats are up for election on November 5, 2013. Those seats are for districts 1, 5, 6, 7 and 9. Longtime incumbent Lawrence Marshall has decided not to run for re-election of District 9.
