Craig Beytien currently serves as an at-large member on the Dubuque Community School Board. He first won election to the board in 2009 and won a second term on the board on September 10, 2013.

Biography

Beytien was born in Minnesota and grew up in Kansas City. Craig attended public schools and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1982. He began his business career in educational publishing with Macmillan before he joined McGraw-Hill in 1988 as College Textbook Editor. He eventually assumed the position of Vice-President of Product Development at McGraw-Hill, and served there for over 16 years. Currently, Beytien is Executive VP and a Partner at a publishing consulting firm called Content Connections. Beytien, his wife Alyson, and his three sons, Spencer, Joshua, and Zachary moved to Dubuque in 2003. Craig is also a woodworker hobbyist and semi-professional magician, as well as a devout Mormon.[1]

Dubuque Community Schools is located in Dubuque, Iowa. According to the 2010 US Census, Dubuque is home to 58,155 residents.[2] The district lies on the eastern border of Iowa and is 201 miles east of Des Moines.

Demographics

The median household income in Dubuque in 2011 was $43,362 compared to $50,451 for the state of Iowa. The poverty rate was 11.8% in Dubuque compared to 11.9% statewide. The graduation rate for Dubuque was 90.0% whereas statewide the graduation rate for Iowa is 90.3%.[3]
