Issues

Campaign themes

2013

Foster’s website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]

  • Military

Excerpt: "The possibility of losing their health care and retirement benefits: I intend to bring more widespread attention to this issue. This is a great injustice we are doing to our troops and is unacceptable. I intend to vote to stop this problem and point out areas where we can cut unnecessary military spending and put it back in the pockets of our troops who so deserve it."

  • Transportation

Excerpt: "Year after year, we all pay taxes on our vehicles (among other vehicle related expenses), and this money goes into a transportation fund. The problem is that our wonderful, trustworthy representatives take the money from the Transportation Fund and put a bunch of it in the General Fund and spend it elsewhere, leaving you and I with tore up and congested highways, nice huh? Here's how we fix it: All the money earmarked for transportation goes into what they call a lock box that they can't touch unless it is used strictly for transportation and highway purposes."

  • Cut Taxes and Spending

Excerpt: "Taxes are too high, that's because Virginia's state spending is too high. I want to reduce both. If elected I will file a budget bill that cuts state spending immediately by 25% or more."

  • Education

Excerpt: "I'd...like to see Virginia start Voucher Programs for home schooled children and children whose parents want them to attend private schools. It saves the government tax dollars while giving the option of allowing parents to choose where they send their kids to school or helps them cover their cost of home schooling."

  • Pro 2nd Amendment Rights

Excerpt: "A persons right to bear arms for self defense of his own person and family should not be compromised. I am a gun owner as are most of my friends and neighbors. All I can say here is I plan to vote to keep our rights as stated in our Constitution, period."
