Dan Newhouse is a former Director of Agriculture for Washington state. He was first appointed by Governor Christine Gregoire on February 18, 2009. He previously served in the Washington House of Representatives from 2003 to 2009.[1]

Newhouse was a 2014 Republican candidate seeking election to the U.S. House to represent the 4th Congressional District of Washington.[2][3][4]


Newhouse and his wife, Carol, operate a farm, producing hops, tree fruit, grapes and alfalfa.[1] His father, Irv, served in the Washington State Legislature for 34 years, and the Senate building is named after him. Newhouse was first elected to the state House in 2002 and served until he was named state Director of Agriculture in 2009.[5]

Newhouse represented District 15 in the Washington House of Representatives from 2003 to 2009.[6]

Newhouse was a candidate in the 2014 election for the U.S. House to represent Washington's 4th District.[2] Newhouse sought the Republican nomination in the primary. The general election took place November 4, 2014.



Newhouse was appointed as Washington Director of Agriculture by Gov. Chris Gregoire effective February 18, 2009.[7]
