Dan J. Schmidt is a Democratic member of the Idaho State Senate, representing District 5 since 2012. He previously represented District 6 from 2010 to 2012.

Schmidt is a family doctor in Moscow, ID; he has also worked as a county coroner. He received his bachelor's in human biology and anthropology from Stanford University in 1976 and his M.D. from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1986.

Schmidt won re-election in the 2012 election for Idaho State Senate District 5. Schmidt ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on May 15 and defeated Gresham Bouma (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]

Schmidt had no opposition in the May 25 primary. He ran against Republican candidate Gresham Dale Bouma in the general election on November 2, 2010, defeating him.[3]
