Danielle Nantkes Conrad (b. August 5, 1977) is a member of the Nebraska State Senate.

Conrad is registered as a Democrat. She ran for the Unicameral in 2006 for the first time, winning 55% of the vote in the non-partisan election for the 46th legislative district seat.

Conrad earned her bachelor's degree in political science and her J.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2000 and 2003 respectively. She has worked as an attorney for Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest since 2003. In 2008, she worked as a consultant for Nebraskans United.

Conrad is involved with a number of organizations, including the Lincoln Bar Association, Lincoln Young Women's Christian Association, Nebraska LAPTOP Program, Nebraska State Bar Association, and the Volunteers Lawyers Project. She currently serves on the Community Development Task Force.

Issues

Conrad joined with term-limited DiAnna Schimek in early 2008 to override Gov. Dave Heineman's veto of Nebraska Legislative Bill 39, a law imposing significant new burdens on the initiative process in Nebraska.

Common Cause criticism

In 2008, Common Cause Nebraska (CCN) asserted that Conrad was acting unethically in doing paid work for Nebraskans United.

CCN spokesperson Jack Gould said that senators should not do paid work on issues they may later be asked to vote on. Conrad called his criticism "ludicrous".[1]
