David Johnson is a Republican member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 3. Johnson served in the Iowa State House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002. He joined the Iowa State Senate in 2002 and has served in that position since. He is currently Assistant Minority Leader.

Johnson earned his BA in History from Beloit College in 1973.

Johnson has worked as a Newspaper Publisher/Editor and a Dairy Farmer.

Johnson is running for re-election to the 3rd District Seat in the Iowa State Senate with no opposition. The election takes place on November 2, 2010. Johnson was not opposed in the June 8th Republican primary election.[1]


On November 7, 2006, Johnson was re-elected to the 3rd District Seat in the Iowa State Senate, defeating Mel Berryhill (D).[2] Johnson raised $61,659 for his campaign, while Berryhill raised $39,286.[3]
