David Koehler is a Democratic member of the Illinois State Senate. Koehler was first elected to the Illinois Senate in 2006. Before becoming a Senator, Koehler was a City Council member for the City of Peoria from 2002 to 2007.

Koehler graduated from Yankton College with his Bachelor's Degree in 1971 and also with a Masters in Divinity from United Theological Seminary.

On June 3, 2011, Koehler announced he was running for the 17th U.S. Congressional District in 2012.[2] However, on December 2, he announced he would be seeking re-election to the state Senate instead.[3] Koehler defeated James Polk and Marvin Bainter in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012. He will face Republican Pat Sullivan in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4][5][6]
