David received 62% of the vote, defeating Bob Friedrich. He faced re-election in November 2010.
Weprin was a councilmember on the New York City Council from 2001-2010. His professional experiences include financial services; deputy superintendent of Banks; and secretary of the Banking Board for New York State.
Weprin earned a BA in political science from the State University of New York-Albany and a JD from Hofstra University. He and his wife, Ronni, have five children.
In the 2011-2012 legislative session, Weprin has been appointed to the following committees:
- Banks Committee, New York State Assembly
- Cities Committee, New York State Assembly
- Election Law Committee, New York State Assembly
- Governmental Employees Committee, New York State Assembly
- Insurance Committee, New York State Assembly
- Judiciary Committee, New York State Assembly
On July 7, Democrats chose Weprin as the Party's nominee to run in the September 13 special election to fill Anthony Weiner's 9th District seat in Congress. The winner of the special election will serve out the remainder of Weiner's term, ending in January 2013.
Currently, the 9th Congressional District includes Brooklyn and Queens; however, the district is in danger. Due to population losses, redistricting may eliminate the 9th district and two congressional seats.
