Issues

Campaign themes

Ms. Blais's website lists the following:

  • Transportation

Excerpt: "Piecemeal measures, such as adding a lane to highways for limited stretches, are being paid for with debt by the current legislature and are not the long-term traffic management solutions we need as a growing state. Light-rail from Haymarket to the Vienna Metro will reduce traffic without adding to the already constant delays and closures that plague our roads"

  • Education

Excerpt: "We need to keep the funding we have in schools, not cutting it like the House of Delegates voted to do last year. Education of our children is the number-one way to expand our economy and make the state more attractive to outsiders looking for a place to live and to do business."

  • Making Your Votes Count

Excerpt: "Currently the state legislatures choose their constituents – they draw their own districts... Redistricting should be done by a nonpartisan commission. If a commission had redistricted the state districts, an estimated $10M would have been saved, and we would have relatively compact, competitive districts."

  • Honest Government

Excerpt: "The average campaign spends hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to win election to a position that pays $17,000 a year. After spending so much more than a legislator is paid, it is little wonder that these legislators have difficulty sticking to a budget. This is why Dianne has decided to run a low-budget campaign focused on issues and voters, not dollars and donors. "

Personal

Blais and her husband have four children and have fostered over one hundred children. Dianne has a BA in economics and was previously the Vice President of a small business right here in Virginia. Ms. Blais has been very active in the League of Women Voters and was Co-President of Virginia AAUW from 2008-10.
