Dick Dearden (b. June 3, 1938) is a Democratic member of the Iowa Senate, representing District 34.

Education

Dearden received his diploma from Des Moines East High School in 1957.

Professional experience

Dearden was a Representative for Almalgated Meat Cutters. He has also worked as Supervisor for AMF Lawn and Garden. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1956 to 1962. He has been a Job Developer for the 5th Judicial District since 1986.

Political experience

Dearden was Chair of the Polk County Democrats from 1980 to 1982. In 1996 he was a delegate at the Democratic National Convention. He has been on the Polk County Central Committee since 1972. He joined the Iowa State Senate in 1994. He has served in that position since, representing the 34th district.

Dearden and his wife, Sharon, have three children.
