Political Philosophy

Hassig outlined his political philosophy: "I believe that good government is a vitally necessary part of civil society. I hope to bring about a great change in the federal government of the United States. I am committed to working with great perseverance to bring a new federal government into existence that functions without any controlling influences of corporations. I am committed to the establishment and enforcement of publicly financed campaigns for public office. I am committed to using government to increase the quantity of fairness in America. I will work to establish a system of taxation that introduces fairness into economic matters at all levels of economic status. I propose to accomplish this by enacting tax changes that include: (1) 50,000.00 standard deduction on federal income tax, combined with progressive tax rates; and (2) a federal sales tax on all transactions that occur on the New York Stock Exchange and within the financial sector.

I would use the funds generated by the above described system of taxation to provide the following service free of charge: public transportation, college through graduate school, health care and legal services. I would endeavor to insure that a new minimum was established for Social Security, that minimum being 1,500.00 dollars per month. I would establish open enrollment Medicaid for all Americans.

In order to accomplish the goals described above, the Truth needs to come out about corporate control of government in the United States. I would work to establish a National Truth Commission charged with empowering the American people to bring out the Truth about corporate control. I would endeavor to create a First Amendment Rights Task Force. This task force would be charged with empowering the American people to make full use of their First Amendment rights. The task force would serve to insure that abuses of First Amendment rights were addressed with the full force of the law."[3]
