Coston has run twice for State Representative and held Precinct Delegate office. He has a Masters in Human Resource Management from the Keller Graduate School of Management, BA in Political Science from the University of Arizona, and his Paralegal Certification from Oakland Community College.
Coston highlights protection of K-12 education funding as a priority, in addition to expanded access to healthcare and close protections of personal reproductive rights.
Coston ran in the 2012 election for Michigan House of Representatives District 40. Coston ran unopposed in the August 7 Democratic primary and was defeated by Michael D. McCready (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. 
Coston and his wife Melinda have three children.
