Doug Manchester is a real estate developer based in San Diego, California. He is the chairman of the Manchester Financial Group.

Manchester purchased the San Diego Union-Tribune in November 2011 for $110 million.[1]

Political donations

Manchester contributed $125,000 to the campaign to pass Proposition 8, the "Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry" Initiative (2008). Manchester cited his Catholicism as a motivation for his support of Proposition 8.[2] He also said, "When they say that we cannot say that a marriage is between a man and a woman, that's where I draw the line."[3]

At the time, his company owned the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego. Manchester's support for Proposition 8 sparked a boycott of the hotel.

In March 2011, Manchester sold the Grand Hyatt to Host Hotels and Resorts.[4]
