This measure sought to add a third term to the current Sheriff term limit of two consecutive terms.[2] Those in favor of the measure stated that it would increase public safety and save money on election costs. Opponents saw this as a way for the council to open the door to extending their own term limits, starting with the Sheriff who is liked by the community. Noting as well that long term officials just lead to stagnant government, leading to career politicians.[3]

The question on the ballot:

Shall the voters of Douglas County, Colorado have the right to elect the Sheriff of Douglas County to a third consecutive term, beyond the current limitation of two consecutive terms, pursuant to Section 11 (2) of Article XVIII of the Colorado Constitution?[4]
