Douglas Smith was a Republican member of the Maine State Senate. Smith served the Maine Senate from 2006 to 2010. Smith previously served in the Maine House of Representatives from 1971 to 1977.

Smith graduated with both his Bachelor's and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Maine.

Smith is a retired judge and tree farmer.

Smith did not seek re-election to the 27th District Seat in 2010, although he was eligible to do so. Douglas Thomas ran for the seat on the Republican ticket. Susan Mackey Andrews ran for the seat on the Democratic ticket. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.


On November 4, 2008, Smith ran for District 27 of the Maine State Senate, beating Susan Mackey-Andrews. [2]
