The Education Committee is a standing committee of the Ohio State Senate.

Per the Senate Rules, committees of the Ohio State Senate are appointed by the President of the Senate. The rules do not give a specific date to which committees are assigned but committee appointments occur after the organization of the Senate.[1] The President shall appoint a chair and vice-chair of each standing committee as well as a ranking minority member.[2] The Minority Leader can recommend minority membership and a ranking minority member for each committee.[1] The President can be substituted as a voting member on any standing committee. The Minority Leader shall be an ex-officio nonvoting member of each committee, and at the Minority Leader's request, the President can substitute for the Minority Leader as a voting member on any committee.[2] A majority of members in a committee is considered quorum.[3]

The Senate Education Committee is responsible for reviewing all legislation affecting primary and secondary education policy, as well as addressing changes in law that may impact higher education. Other areas of focus for this committee include issues concerning pre-school and Head Start programs. The chair of the Senate Education Committee serves as a non-voting ex officio member of both the State Board of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents. Other committee members serve on various educational boards and commissions such as the Education Commission of the States.[4][5]
