Elgie R. Sims, Jr. is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 34th District since August 2012. He is also a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 34 of the Illinois House of Representatives.

Sims earned his BS from Illinois State University. He went on to receive his MPA from the University of Illinois. He then earned his JD from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He is an attorney for the Law Offices of Elgie R. Sims, Jr.

Sims was sworn into office on August 3, 2012 after Representative Constance A. Howard resigned in the face of federal investigations into an AIDS-awareness nonprofit that she founded.[1][2]

Sims is running in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 34. Sims defeated Richard A. Wooten, Paul Steven Gregoire, Kyle Kasperek and Sandra J. Wortham in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012. He is unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4]
