Colbert-Busch is a candidate to fill Tim Scott's U.S. House of Representatives seat. An election will be held to fill the vacancy left by the appointment of Scott to the United States Senate. The filing deadline is January 28, 2013. The primary will take place on March 19, 2013 with the general election to follow on May 7, 2013.
Former Governor Mark Sanford is seen as the front runner due to name recognition and the fact that he has $120,000 in an old campaign account. This coupled with his ability to fundraise quickly gives him a leg up on the field. This is also his former seat in the U.S. House of Representatives that he held for three terms, prior to being elected governor.
Republicans are heavy favorites to retain control of the seat.
