Ella Ward was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House representing the 4th Congressional District of Virginia. Ward defeated Joe Elliott Jr. in the Democratic primary on June 12, 2012.[1] She lost in the November 6, 2012, general election.[2]

Ward is on the Chesapeake City Council and formerly served on the state school board.[3]


Campaign themes


According to her website, Ward's campaign platform included the following issues[4]:

  • Reduced business taxes for companies' first two years in operation
  • Increased expenditures on infrastructure
  • Supporting Social Security and Medicare

Ward ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Virginia's 4th District. She won the nomination on the Democratic ticket and defeated Joe Elliott Jr. in the June 12 primary.[1] She lost to Republican Randy Forbes in the general election.[2]

By June 2012, Ward had raised $23,000, while Elliott reported no campaign contributions.[3]
