Genrich graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a bachelor's degree in 2002, and then completed a master's degree from University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 2010.

Elections for all 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly will take place in 2014. A primary election took place on August 12, 2014. The general election will be held on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 2, 2014. Incumbent Eric Genrich was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Eric Wimberger was unopposed in the Republican primary. Shae Sortwell is running as a Serving Liberty and the People Party candidate. Genrich, Wimberger and Sortwell will face off in the general election.[1][2]
