West earned his B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of Arizona. He went on to receive an MS degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University. He then earned a law degree from Stanford Law School.
West is currently employed as a real estate attorney with Jennings Strouss and Salmon. He formerly worked as a financial planner for the Bank of America. He has also worked in corporate finance.
West has served as Republican Precinct Committeeman in District 11 for three terms.
