Erik Paulsen

Erik Paulsen is a Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives and is a Republican candidate for the United States House of Representatives in Minnesota's 3rd congressional district.
Paulsen currently serves in the Minnesota House of Representatives representing district 42B where he has served since 1995. Paulsen served as House Majority Leader from 2003 to 2007. He currently serves on the Ways and Means, Taxes, Commerce and Rules committees.
Paulsen's opponent in the 3rd district is Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor Party (DFL) candidate and Iraq War Veteran Ashwin Madia. His candidacy was announced after the incumbent, Jim Ramstad (Republican) announced his retirement in 2007, which gave an opportunity for both major parties to field potential candidates. Fraternal Order of Police, Minnesota Peace and Police Officers Association, St. Paul Police Federation, Police Officer’s Federation of Minneapolis have all endorsed Paulsen in this race [1]. Erik Paulsen addressed the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota.

HF 548 was sponsored by State Senator Ann Rest and State Representative Paulsen which introduced legislation to create a searchable database containing information on state contracts and grants valued at over $25,000.[2],[3] The legislation will be enacted in 2008.
Biography
Erik Paulsen grew up in Chanhassen, Minnesota graduating from Chaska High School and later attended St. Olaf College, receiving a BA degree in Mathematics. Paulsen got his start in politics as a staff member for Representative Jim Ramstad in Washington D.C.; then State Director in Minnesota [4] He also served as an intern for Senator Rudy Boschwitz.
