Boston Herald-As an historic election draws near, so does the fear increase of widespread problems at the polls, including people not being able to vote or voting fraud[1].
MIT Professor worries about electronic voting, registration databases
“We are worried about registration being challenged after the fact, because some people were unregistered and voted,” said MIT political science Professor Charles Stewart. Stewart fears hundreds of thousands of voters across the nation could be deemed ineligible to vote because their names are misspelled in computerized voter databases and do not match other state records, as some states have tougher laws requiring voter ID [1].
Other experts, as well as some Republicans, are concerned ineligible people will cast votes after being wrongly registered by third party registration groups like ACORN and the Community Voters Project, which reportedly submitted as many as 400,000 fraudulent, incomplete, or duplicate registrations[1]. "There’s a real possibility that something could go wrong,” said political science Professor George Serra of Bridgewater State College[1].
